The Houston Rideshare Challenge was launched on January 23, 2008 by Harris County Judge Ed Emmett & Houston Mayor Bill White. Thousands of Houstonians are participating in this year-long event and sharing over 275,000 rides resulting in 10,000,000 fewer miles driven and the prevention of more than 4,000 tons of emissions. Houston residents can join in at any time and earn a variety of rewards from sponsors. A limited number of sponsorships are still available for organizations who want to be part of this important event.

The Tri-State Challenge took place from April 1, 2007 to April 30, 2008 in the greater New York/Connecticut metropolitan region. Area employers actively supported the challenge by "racing" against each other and promoting the event to their employees. Over ten thousand commuters participated in the event and shared 138,800 rides resulting in 5,040,000 fewer miles driven and the prevention of 2,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. Over 30 local and national sponsors also supported the events and provided $122,000 in rewards and prizes to participating commuters.

The Chevron Challenge took place from March 1, 2006 to February 28, 2007 in the greater Washington D.C. metropolitan region. Chevron and over 20 other organizations sponsored 5,874 commuters who shared 134,793 rides resulting in 5,216,000 fewer miles driven and 2,300 fewer tons of greenhouse gas emissions. |

In April 2006 Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell issued the "Connecticut 2,000,000 Mile Rideshare Challenge" and challenged Connecticut drivers to share rides and reduce 2,000,000 miles of driving from Connecticut roadways. The first-ever rideshare challenge was a success and was supported by 21 sponsors and over 4,000 Connecticut residents who achieved the 2,000,000 mile goal in just under nine months. |
