In January 2009, Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Joseph Marie announced the "Earth Day Commuter Challenge Race to the Finish" (view press release)—an event that encouraged individuals to take greener forms of commuting by carpooling, vanpooling, taking public transportation, telecommuting, walking and biking.
Participating commuters saved money on gas and earned rewards from local and national sponsors, including over two dozen weekly prizes of $100 in groceries delivered right to their door by Peapod, the country's leading internet grocer.
Participating employers competed against each other in a number of races. Companies that produced the greatest results during the challenge are presented in the table on the right. To view the leading companies simply select a category from the menu on the upper right hand side of this page.
So join us in thanking the tens of thousands of commuters and hundreds of employers who made the Earth Day Commuter Challenge a tremendous success!
