1.   What are NuRide's membership requirements?

To join NuRide you must be at least 18 years old, and be affiliated with an organization such as your employer or school.

2.   Why does NuRide require members to be affiliated with an organization?

By knowing where other NuRiders work, attend school, etc. you can make a well-informed decision when evaluating potential carpool partners.

3.   How does NuRide check that I am affiliated with an organization?

NuRide typically checks an individual's organizational affiliation via their email address. For example, if you work at Acme Corporation we would send an email to your acme.com email address. You can also have your organizational affiliation checked without an email address if you are affiliated with a large company that has partnered with NuRide and has agreed to provide this information (e.g. H-E-B, AARP, etc.).

4.   How much can I earn in rewards?

The amount you earn depends on the trips you take and the rewards you select. Rewards are provided by local and national sponsors and vary based on where you live and travel. Active NuRide members typically redeem around $300 a year in rewards.

5.   How do the reward points work?

Points are awarded for the first two trips that are completed on your NuRide trip calendar each day which exceed a minimum distance as shown below.

Type of trip Min distance Points per one-way trip Points per round trip
Carpool/vanpool 1 mile 100 200
Telecommute 1 mile -- 200
Bus 0.5 mile 100 200
Rail 0.5 mile 100 200
Bike 0.5 mile 100 200
Walk 0.25 mile 100 200

6.   How do I redeem my reward points?

Simply log into your NuRide account to redeem your points for rewards. Rewards vary based on each person's account so please note that you and your friends may not get the same rewards.

7.   How quickly can I earn a reward?

NuRiders typically earn their first reward in as little as a week.

8.   Does NuRide sell my personal information to sponsors or other third parties?

NuRide never allows any third parties to have access to your personal information without your explicit permission, even if they are NuRide sponsors. To learn more about NuRide’s efforts to protect your personal information, please read NuRide’s privacy policy.

9.   Do I have to use NuRide every day?

No, you can use NuRide whenever you like – it’s completely up to you.

10.   Do I have to ride with any person who wants to carpool with me?

Absolutely not. If you don’t wish to take a particular carpool trip, you can always cancel your participation. You can also limit the people who can see your carpool trips by specifying your personal match criteria. Plus, if there is someone you would prefer not to ride with at all, you can place that NuRider on your “Do-Not-Ride” list, and he or she will not be able to contact you.

11.   Do I have to carpool with lots of different people?

No, you do not have to carpool with lots of different people.

12.   Can use NuRide if I’m already in a carpool or if I ride with my spouse?

Yes, you can join NuRide and earn rewards if you already carpool or ride with your spouse.

13.   Do riders have to pay drivers for gas and tolls when carpooling?

NuRide carpoolers make these decisions on an individual basis. When carpooling you can decide to share the cost with the other NuRider or you can simply take turns driving and riding - it's up to you and the other NuRider.

14.   Is it possible to only drive or only ride when carpooling?

Yes, each time you plan a carpool trip you specify your role for that trip.

15.   How are NuRide carpools different than traditional carpooling?

A traditional carpool is a commitment - you travel with the same people at the same time everyday. With NuRide there are no commitments and you can carpool whenever you want with whomever you want.

16.   Can I use NuRide to carpool for non-work trips?

Absolutely and we strongly encourage it. You can use NuRide to carpool to the shopping center, a concert or even the ball game.

17.   Can I get points for riding a motorcycle, taking a scooter or putting my kid on the bus?

You can earn points for any motorized trip you take that has 2 or more participants (a driver and at least one passenger) who are at least 18 years of age. It's all about sharing the ride with other adults who might otherwise drive alone :-)
